CSHS Giving is the gifting of a charitable contribution to Carver-Scott Humane Society, which will help with
1) the foster care and adoption of lost and abandoned pets in Carver & Scott counties, and
2) the construction of a central facility serving the two counties and surrounding geographic area.
CSHS Giving recognizes financial and non-financial gifts with membership in one of eight CSHS Giving Clubs: The Fox Society, Heritage Club, The Founders, President's Club, Platinum Group, Silver Society, Benefactor's Club and Annual Alliance. See the reverse of this page to learn about qualifications for membership in a specific CSHS Giving Club.
An outright gift to charity, or charitable contribution, is simply a voluntary transfer of something of value to a charitable organization. You can donate any type of funds or property, assuming the charity will accept it, at any time and in any manner you wish.
You can gift to charity when you want to benefit a charity for non-tax reasons or when you want to reduce your income or estate taxes by taking advantage of the deductions the tax code allows for such gifts. You can designate your gift either during your lifetime or as part of your estate.
1) If you itemize deductions, you are entitled to an immediate income tax deduction for the fair market value of the gift.
2) When you gift at death (by a will, life insurance policy, beneficiary designation or another means) the personal representative of your estate can deduct the fair market value of the gift from your gross estate, possibly reducing estate taxes.
3) It provides you with positive social and psychological benefits for donating to charity.
1) When you donate to charity, it is an irrevocable commitment.
2) If you donate a portion of your estate to charity, those assets are lost to your heirs.
3) To qualify as a tax deduction, you must obtain a qualified appraisal if property is valued in excess of $5,000, and the tax code requires you to obtain a dated receipt from the charity for donations over $250.00
Call CSHS at 952-368-3553 and we will help put you in touch with a financial advisor that assists CSHS with this program. It's that simple. Donations must be made by Dec. 31 to qualify as a deducation in 2007.
