Carver Scott Humane Society is Moving!

Please read our following FAQs to learn more

  • We’ve simply outgrown our current space. Over the past few years, we’ve done everything possible to make our current Chaska location work – converting a reception area into a cattery, stacking supplies from floor to ceiling, and squeezing kennels into every available corner. Despite our best efforts, we are still bursting at the seams.

This move will give us the room we need to grow, doubling our space to accommodate more animals, host additional meet & greets, and provide much-needed extra storage — it will allow us to:

    • Perform in-house spay/neuter surgeries and other veterinary services, allowing us to rescue more animals and reduce long-term expenses.

    • Offer low-cost spay/neuter and veterinary services to our rescue partners — addressing a long-unmet need in our region.

    • Expand our cat housing capacity, allowing us to rescue and care for even more feline friends.

    • House dogs on-site, providing us with flexibility when foster homes are unavailable or they aren’t the best fit for a dog.

    • Expand community programs and services that make such a difference for animals and the people who love them.

    • Increase our storage space, enabling us to keep essential supplies on hand to support both animals in our care and pets in the community.

  • The new facility is located in Hopkins, about 17 miles east of our current location and about 15 minutes from the Twin Cities. We began looking right here in Chaska, but after an extensive search turned up no suitable properties, we broadened our radius.

Hopkins quickly stood out as the right fit — offering the space we need to grow while keeping us conveniently located for our current fosters, volunteers, and supporters. It’s also more centrally located, making it easier for adopters, rescue partners, and community members across the metro to connect with us.

This new location allows us to stay true to our roots while positioning us to serve even more animals and families in the years ahead.

  • The new facility offers a blank slate – which means we get to design and build it to fit our exact needs. From installing cat condos and dog kennels to equipping the veterinary suite and community spaces, every detail will be tailored to create the best possible environment for our animals and people alike.

Of course, that level of customization takes time. Construction and buildout will occur over the coming months, with the goal of being fully operational in the new facility by early spring of 2026.

We will continue to share updates and milestones along the way – so stay tuned as we bring this new space to life!

  • Not at all! None of our current programs or services will change. In fact, this move will allow us to strengthen and expand what we already offer to pets and people in the west metro and beyond.

We’ll continue serving our existing communities just as we always have — through our foster network, adoption events, and partnerships — while gaining the capacity to reach even more animals in need.

  • Several years ago, Carver Scott Humane Society was gifted a parcel of land through a generous bequest. Earlier this year, we made the thoughtful decision to sell that land, providing the cash reserves needed to jumpstart our move and begin transforming the new space.

In addition to those reserves, we will be raising funds to support the move and buildout – including everything from kennels and cat condos, to veterinary equipment, and washers and dryers. These funds will come from individual donors, business sponsorships, and grant opportunities that share our vision for growth.

You can learn about how to support the move in the next section.

  • There are many ways to support this next chapter!

Give to the Max Day’s early giving period is underway and continues until the big day on November 20th. Funds raised towards this year’s goal of $45,000 will help outfit the new facility—from kennels and cat condos to veterinary equipment and supplies. You can donate to this goal—and help increase our chances of winning a GTMD golden ticket — at givemn.org/cshs

You can also make a gift anytime online here or by mail to our current location.

If you’re interested in funding a specific need or room, donating an item directly, or exploring a business sponsorship, please reach out to us at giving@carverscotths.org

We will also need volunteers to help with various move-related activities, including moving items, painting walls, building furniture, and more. If you’d like to help, you can submit your interest here

We’d love to find the purrfect way for you to support the move, whether through your time, resources, or expertise.

  • We’re growing in big ways — not just in size, but in identity.

As we prepare for this new chapter, we’re also exploring a new name that better reflects who we are today and the wider communities we serve. While we’re not ready to share it just yet, we can’t wait to reveal it as part of our move to Hopkins in 2026!

  • For questions about the move that aren’t covered here, please submit your comments or questions here.
